MN2S February 2010

This month in Promoters’ Corner we speak to Sharron Elkabas from Milk ‘n’2 Sugars ahead of their massive Miami party.

Milk ‘n’2 Sugars is a wicked name, how did it come about?
The name came about from when myself and a group of friends used to go out most Saturday nights back in the early 90’s and we would usually end up back at someone’s house for an after party. It became a bit of a ritual to have a cup of tea to mark the end of the night, and Milk ‘n’2 Sugars was how we took it! When we decided to hold our first club event in March ’95, the name just seemed like a natural choice …

How long have you been in the music business?
It will be 15 years this March.

Do you think you’ll always work in music or would you like to explore other avenues?
You never know what the future holds but I’ve been involved in music from an early age and really enjoy what I do, so as long as that continues to be the case, it’s hard to see myself doing anything else.

You work with your brothers. Do you guys ever argue at work or is it brotherly love all the way?
It’s usually brotherly love – Dave heads up the labels and I handle the agency side of things so it’s a combined effort and we make a good team.

So Miami 2010?
MN2S at WMC is always a really special event for us – it’s become one of the most attended parties of the conference and is always a great night with a huge line up and gives us the opportunity to showcase our artists.

You throw parties, you book DJs and you release records, what’s the most rewarding aspect of what you do?
There are a lot of rewarding aspects of what we do – I personally feel satisfied if we’re doing the best job that we can and delivering quality across the board – be it an event, release or providing a service to the artists we represent.

Some people say clubland is on its ass, some say it’s as good ever. What’s do you reckon?
Clubland is certainly not on its ass. Like anything, it goes in cycles. We’ve been through some difficult times in the UK but things are improving and globally club culture is as popular as ever.

If you could book any artist alive or dead to perform at Milk who would you book?
James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Danny Tenaglia …

I know it’s incredibly difficult and maybe a little bit silly but name three tracks that would best describe MN2S over the years?
Three tracks which are representative of the MN2S label over the years would be DJ Disciple’s Slam Jam Mix of Things We Used To Do, Jon Cutler feat Pete Simpson ‘Runnin’ and Timmy Vegas ‘Cant Make it Through Another Day’ (Grant Nelson Remix).
